Vibrational spectra of molybdenum and tungsten pentafluorides

Abstract

The i.r. and Raman spectra of crystalline and liquid molybdenum pentafluoride have been obtained. It is concluded that the melt contains trigonal bipyramidal monomeric species. The i.r. spectrum of crystalline tungsten pentafluoride has been studied and is closely similar to the spectrum of crystalline molybdenum pentafluoride.
