Pentafluorophenylhydrido-complexes of molybdenum and tungsten and related derivatives

Abstract

The preparation and characterisation of the hydrido-complexes (π-C5H4C6F5)(π-C5H5)MX(C6F5)(M = Mo or W, and X = H) are described. They react with carbon tetrachloride forming the chloro-analogues (X = Cl). Oxidation of the chloro-complexes forms the corresponding d1 cations which may be isolated as the salts [(π-C5H4C6F5)-(π-C5H5)MCl(C6F5)]+PR6. Structures for the complexes are proposed on the basis of i.r., and 1H and 19F n.m.r., electron spin resonance and mass spectra.
