Chloro-olefin and chlorovinyl complexes of platinum

Abstract

New chloro-olefin complexes of the type Pt(chloro-olefin)(PPh3)2 have been prepared by reactions of the olefins trichloroethylene, cis- and trans-1,2 dichloroethylene, and 1,1-dichloroethylene with Pt(trans-stilbene)(PPh3)2. Under similar conditions hexachloropropene gives cis-PtCl2(PPh3)2, 1,1,2-trichloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene gives PtCl2F2(PPh3)2 and tribromoethylene gives PtBr(C2HBr3)(PPh3)2. Some of the olefin complexes can be isomerised to cis- and trans-chloro-vinyl complexes and, depending on the reaction conditions, olefin and vinyl complexes can be isolated by addition of the chloro-olefin to a mixture of cis-PtCl2(PPh3)2 and hydrazine hydrate.

I.r. spectra of the complexes are reported.
