Solvent extraction from halide solutions. Part IV. A pseudohalide system
Abstract
The extraction of iron(III) from thiocyanate solutions may involve either, or both, solvated Fe(SCN)3 and ion pairs containing solvated Fe(SCN)4–, depending on the conditions and solvent. The nature of the extracting species has been explored both by investigating the dependence of the extraction coefficient on the various parameters defining the system and by Mössbauer spectroscopy of the frozen extracts. A theoretical analysis of the difficulties attending the interpretation of dilution plots has been made.
