Equilibria in multicomponent scrambling on dimethylgermanium

Abstract

Redistribution equilibria in the systems (i) Me2GeCl2vs. Me2GeBr2vs. Me2Gel2, (ii) Me2GeCl2vs. Me2Gel2, vs. Me2Ge(OPh)2, and (iii) Me2GeCl2vs. Me2GeBr2vs. Me2Gel2vs. Me2Ge(OPh)2 have been studied by 1H n.m.r. spectrometry. Equilibrium constants were calculated from which theoretical equilibrium concentrations corresponding to these constants were computed. Six different species are present at equilibrium in systems (i) and (ii) and ten species in system (iii). The observed equilibria did not deviate greatly from random statistics.
