The crystal structure of methyldineopentylsulphonium tri-iododineopentylsulphonium-methylzincate, [(C5H11)2SMe]+[(C5H11)2SCH2Znl3]

Abstract

The structure of a new organo-zinc compound, methyldineopentylsulphonium tri-iododineopentylsulphonium-methylzincate, has been determined by X-ray analysis. The crystals contain discrete ions, a sulphonium cation [(C5H11)2SMe]+, and an organo-zinc anion [(C5H11)2SCH2Znl3]. The zinc atom is tetrahedrally co-ordinated to three iodine atoms (mean distance Zn–l, 2·64 Å) and to the substituted methyl carbon atom (Zn–C, 2·14 Å).
