Mechanism of reduction of double bonds in biological systems: conversion of desmosterol into cholesterol

Abstract

The reduction of the 24,25-double bond in chloesterol biosynthesis occurs with the addition of a hydrogen atom from the medium at C-24 and another from the 4-position of NADPH at C-25.
