ortho Conjugate addition of benzyl grignards—a remarkable copper effect

Abstract

ortho-1,4-Addition is the predominant reaction between m-methoxybenzyl Grignard reagent and methyl vinyl ketone but it is sharply reduced in the presence of copper(I) chloride.
