A comparison of some methods for the determination of tungsten

Abstract

Four methods, one titrimetric and three gravimetric, for the determination of tungsten in the 50 to 100-mg range have been compared, and a study of the effect of the presence of molybdenum was made. In the absence of molybdenum, precipitation with benzidine and ignition to tungsten trioxide is preferred. Precipitation from peroxotungstate solution prevents interference by molybdenum at the level tested but recoveries are slightly low.
