Titrimetric determination of diuron in herbicide formulations

Abstract

Diuron is extracted with chloroform from a dispersion of the sample in 4 N hydrochloric acid and, after evaporation of the solvent, is hydrolysed in boiling 24 N sulphuric acid. The liberated dimethylamine is distilled into 2 per cent. boric acid and titrated with 0·05 N hydrochloric acid with methylene blue-methyl red as indicator. An error of less than 1 per cent. was found when the method was applied to technical and formulated samples.
