The micro determination of sulphate and fluoride in lime-silica-sulphate-fluoride phase systems

Abstract

Sulphuric acid, liberated by ion exchange, is titrated conductimetrically with potassium hydroxide by using a high-frequency titrimeter coupled to a recorder. If fluorine is present in the sample, total acid in the eluent is titrated, the fluorine in solution determined spectrophotometrically and sulphate found by difference. The method is intended to provide maximum accuracy, working with small samples (50 mg or less) containing sulphate in the range 0 to 40 per cent. of sulphur trioxide, and fluorine in the range 0 to 1 per cent.
