Electrokinetic properties of dispersions of model compounds of biological interest

Abstract

The electrophoretic mobilities of dispersions of octadecanoic acid, octadecanol and octadecylamine in aqueous solutions of sodium chloride at two ionic strengths, and of eicosanoic acid at one ionic strength have been determined over the pH range 3–10. Since the observed electrokinetic properties arise from the compounds per se rather than the presence of trace impurities the results may be useful in the interpretation of electrokinetic data from complex biological systems.
