Peptide kinetics. Part 6.—Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraglycine

Abstract

Studies of the kinetics of a mixture of glycyl-glycyl-glycyl-glycine and ¹⁴C₂-glycyl-glycyl-glycyl glycine are reported. Radio-chemical techniques have been combined with automatic ion-exchange chromatography to yield values of k_g-ggg, k_gg-gg and k_ggg-g at 94.2, 74.7 and 55.7° C and values of ΔH^≠ and ΔS^≠. These values are discussed in relation to earlier predictions by the present authors and the results of other workers for acetyl-glycine and diketopiperazine.
