Peptide kinetics. Part 6.—Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraglycine

Abstract

Studies of the kinetics of a mixture of glycyl-glycyl-glycyl-glycine and 14C2-glycyl-glycyl-glycyl glycine are reported. Radio-chemical techniques have been combined with automatic ion-exchange chromatography to yield values of kg-ggg, kgg-gg and kggg-g at 94.2, 74.7 and 55.7° C and values of ΔH and ΔS. These values are discussed in relation to earlier predictions by the present authors and the results of other workers for acetyl-glycine and diketopiperazine.
