Organic peroxides containing functional groups. Part III. The reaction of hydrogen peroxide and t-butyl hydroperoxide with 4-oxovaleric acid

Abstract

γ-Hydroperoxy- and γ-t-butylperoxy-γ-valerolactone have been prepared and their structures established. The reaction of t-butyl hydroperoxide with acetoacetic acid was found to give a peracetal; a similar reaction with pyruvic acid gave a hemiperacetal. The decomposition of the latter and of γ-t-butyperoxy-γ-valerolactone is described.
