Optical rotatory dispersion and circular dichroism studies: bicyclic sesquiterpene ketones of the eudesmane series and related thioacetals

Abstract

O.r.d. and c.d. measurements on some bicyclic sesquiterpene ketones of the eudesmane series, both saturated and unsaturated, and on some related unsaturated thioacetals are reported. The results are compared with those for similar steroids and the conformations of the compounds are discussed. In some cases, side-chain substituents, such as acetyl, exhibit a Cotton effect showing that they are not freely rotating.
