Abstract

An account is given of the synthesis of (±)-18-methyl-19-norpregn-4-ene-3,11,20-trione, (±)-21-hydroxy-18-methyl-19-norpregn-4-ene-3,11,20-trione, (±)-21-acetoxy-17-hydroxy-18-methyl-19-norpregn-4-ene-3,11,20-trione, (±)-21-acetoxy-11β,17-dihydroxy-18-methyl-19-norpregn-4-ene-3,20-dione, and related compounds, starting from the readily available (±)-13-ethyl-3-methoxygona-1,3,5(10),8-tetraen-17-one.
