An homologous series of esters of 3β-methoxy-5α-androstane 17β-carboxylic acid has been synthesised, and examined by o.r.d., c.d., and u.v.; the esters all give Cotton effects of the same sign and order of magnitude. These results are discussed in terms of the preferred conformation of the carboxyl group.
