1,2,3,4-Tetrahydro-7-hydroxy-1-[3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propyl]-6-methoxy-2-methylisoquinoline and the corresponding N-nor-compound have been synthesised. Oxidation of the former with potassium ferricyanide gave, in ca. 1% yield, the dienone arising from coupling between C-8 of the isoquinoline ring and C-1 of the phenylpropyl group.
