The preparation and properties of some benzylated nucleosides

Abstract

Cytidine, adenosine, and guanosine were treated with benzyl bromide; the stability of the products to acid and to alkali was compared with the stability of the corresponding methyl derivatives. 1-Benzyladenine was much less stable than 1-methyladenine in hot acid and readily underwent fission of the pyrimidine ring with loss of C-2.
