Lichens and fungi. Part V. Dehydration rearrangements of 7-hydroxyhopanes

Abstract

Dehydration of 7 β-hydroxyhopane and of the 21 α-H epimer gives a series of 9(8 7)abeo-hopenes, as a result of a Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement. Dehydration of 7 α-hydroxyhopane and of the 21 α-H epimer is accompanied by migration of the C-8 methyl group.
