The synthesis of phospholipids. Part I. Phosphatidyl and lysophosphatidyl ethanolamines

Abstract

A synthesis of saturated and unsaturated optically active phosphatidyl and lysophosphatidyl ethanolamines is described in which the triphenylmethyl group is used for protection. Mild conditions are described for the removal of this group to give the required phospholipids in high yield. Two routes are described, one which allows ready modification of the fatty acid structure and the other which is more useful when modifications of the ethanolamine portion are to be introduced.
