Alkaloids from Croton species. Part VIII. Morphinandienone derivatives from Croton linearis Jacq.

Abstract

Countercurrent separation of alkaloidal material from Croton linearis Jacq. yielded two new alkaloids. These have been shown to be 8,14-dihydrosalutaridine (I; R1= Me, R2= H) and 8,14-dihydronorsalutaridine (I; R1= R2= H). The B : C ring junction has been assigned the cis-configuration and n.m.r. and mass spectral data of these alkaloids and some derivatives are discussed. Biosynthetic studies showed the incorporation of tritium-labelled coclaurine, norcoclaurine, and isococlaurine into 8,14-dihydronorsalutaridine.
