Experiments with thioacetals and related substances. Part V. Reactions of some chloro-gem-bisalkylthiobutanes
Abstract
1-Chloro-3,3-, 2-chloro-3,3-, and 1-chloro-2,2-bisalkylthiobutanes spontaneously eliminate hydrogen chloride forming either bisalkylthiobutenes, usually with accompanying rearrangement, or trisalkylthiobutanes. They are thus much less stable than 3-chloro-1,1-bisethylthiopropane or -butane. Rearrangement without loss of hydrogen chloride has not been encountered.
