The rearrangements with boron trifluoride of 5,6α-epoxy-4,4-dimethyl-5α-cholestane, its 3-oxo- and 3β-acetoxy-derivatives, and of 5,6β-epoxy-4,4-dimethyl-5β-cholestan-3-one, give products of diverse structures including compounds derived by ‘backbone rearrangement.’
