Sulphonohydrazides and related compounds. Part VIII. Some aryl carboxylic acid sulphonohydrazides

Abstract

In a search for new pest control agents the following sulphonohydrazides of aromatic acids have been prepared: 3-sulphonylhydrazino-, 2-methoxy-5-sulphonylhydrazino-, 4-methoxy-3-sulphonylhydrazino-, 2-hydroxy-5-sulphonylhydrazino-, 4-chloro-3-sulphonylhydrazino-, 4-chloro-3-sulphonylhydrazino-, 2-bromo-5-sulphonylhydrazino-, 2-methyl-5-sulphonylhydrazino-, 5-methyl-2-sulphonylhydrazino-, and 4-methyl-3-sulphonylhydrazino-benzoic acids, 4-sulphonylhydrazinocinnamic acid, and 4-sulphonylhydrazino-, and 2-chloro-4-sulphonylhydrazino-phenoxy acetic acids. The hydrazides have been converted into a number of derivatives (e.g., hydrazones, azides). It is suggested that the chlorosulphonation of aromatic carboxylic acids by chlorosulphuric acid involves a mixed anhydride type intermediate.
