The molecular structure of chloralide
Abstract
In benzene solution, chloralide has a dipole moment of 1·64 D and a molar Kerr constant of 46 × 10–12. A comparison of these experimental values with those calculated for various possible models suggests that, as a solute, chloralide exists in a conformation in which the CCl3 groups are trans to each other in a non-planar five-membered ring.
