Nucleophilic catalysis. Part II. The acid catalysed hydrolysis of diazo-ketones

Abstract

The kinetics of the acid catalysed decomposition of a number of diazo-ketones have been studied in perchloric, sulphuric, hydrochloric, and hydrobromic acids in either water or aqueous dioxan as solvent. The effect of added salts on the perchloric acid catalysed reaction has been investigated. Both the water and the halide ion reactions are shown to proceed by an A2 mechanism.
