Spectroscopic studies of acid halides: fluoroacetyl chloride and fluoroacetyl bromide

Abstract

The infrared spectra of fluo roacetyl chloride and fluoroacetyl bromide have been obtained in the liquid, solid, and vapour phases, and frequ encies have been assigned to the fundamental vibrations. Evidence for rotational isomerism has been found, and the enthalpy difference between the two stable conformations of fluoroacetyl chloride estimated to be 980 ± 100 cal./mole.
