Spiro-conjugation in organic sulphides

Abstract

The ultraviolet spectra of a series of cyclic multisulphur compounds have been measured. Long-wavelength absorptions of these compounds are interpreted in terms of d-orbital interactions between non-bonded sulphur atoms. Spiro-conjugation is invoked to interpret the anomalous spectrum of 1,5,7,11-tetrathiaspiro[5,5]undecane.
