Nitrones. Part VIII. The ultraviolet absorption of the 1-pyrroline 1-oxides

Abstract

The intense absorption observed in the u.v. spectra of the 1-pyrroline 1-oxides is assigned to a ππ* transition of the azomethine system conjugated with the negatively charged oxygen substituent. The absorption undergoes a hypsochromic shift in going from nonpolar solvents.
