The effect of naphthacene on the photo-oxidation of chlorophyll b

Abstract

Naphthacene has been found to protect chlorophyll b from photo-oxidation, but to a lesser extent than does β-carotene. During this energy transfer process, naphthacene is converted into its peroxide, which reacts with chlorophyll b, thereby accelerating the rate of decay of chlorophyll b.
