Conformational effects in the hydrolysis of cyclic acetals

Abstract

The enthalpies and entropies of activation of the acid-catalysed hydrolysis of a series of cyclic acetals [graphic omitted], where n= 5, 6, 7, or 8, in dilute aqueous solution have been determined. The results are discussed in terms of the conformational requirements of the transition state.
