Molecular polarisability. The Molar Kerr constants of aniline and of three substituted anilines in a variety of non-polar media
Abstract
Molar Kerr constants are reported for aniline, 2,4,6-trimethylaniline, 2,4,6-tribromoaniline, and NN-dimethylaniline at infinite dilution in cyclohexane, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, and dioxan. Molecular polarisability parameters for aniline derived from ∞(mK2) measurements in the inert cyclohexane environment are used to investigate the polarity and polarisability changes brought about by the introduction of methyl and bromo-substituents in aniline, and the incidence of solute–solvent associations.
