The mass spectra of benzocycloalkenones and their enol acetates

Abstract

The mass spectra of indan-1-one, 1- and 2-tetralone, 3-benzosuberone (1,2-benzocyclohept-1-en-3-one) and 1,2-benzocyclo-oct-1-en-3-one, their enol acetates, and a number of related compounds have been measured. The structure of the ion obtained by loss of keten from the molecular ion of the enol acetates is discussed. The source of the methyl group lost from the (M– 42) ion in some of the enol acetates and from the molecular ion of 1-tetralone has been investigated by deuterium labelling.
