Electrophilic substitutions in metallocenes. Part I. The protodesilylation of trimethylsilylferrocene

Abstract

The kinetics of the protodesilylation of trimethylsilylferrocene have been compared with those of the protodesilylation of p-methoxyphenyltrimethylsilane and 4-trimethylsilyl-m-xylene, and found to be very similar. This suggests that the mechanisms of the reactions may be similar and certainly provides no evidence for initial attack of the electrophile at the iron.
