Oxidation of substituted tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) complexes by thallium(III)

Abstract

Ratios of rates of thallium(III) oxidation of substituted tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) complexes have been determined. The logarithms of these ratios correlate linearly with the redox potentials of the iron(II)–iron(III) complex couples, a correlation which is consistent with an outer-sphere mechanism for these oxidations.
