Infrared studies of some fluorozirconates

Abstract

I.r. spectra and assignments are reported for (NH4)3ZrF7, (NH4)2ZrF6, NH4ZrF5, NH4ZrF5,H2O, K2ZrF6, K2HfF6, Cs2ZrF6, for the 4000–200 cm.–1 region. The zirconium–fluorine vibrations are exhibited as broad-band systems because of the low-site symmetries of the polyhedral anions. For the ammonium salts the spectra indicate the presence of week hydrogen-bonding. The spectrum of the hydrate is consistent with the presence on non-co-ordinated water, hydrogen-bonded in the crystal lattice.
