Thermodynamic considerations in co-ordination. Part VI. The role of the side group in reactions involving 2- and 4-hydroxymethylimidazoles and copper(II) ions
Abstract
The influence of the position of the side group of an imidazole ring has been investigated by measuring the thermodynamic functions for the H+ and copper(II) reactions with 2- and with 4-hydroxymethylimidazole. These were determined by combining the results of calorimetric studies with those from pH-potentiometry. Although the 2-homologue forms stronger imidazole–H+ bonds than the 4-homologue, the enthalpies and entropies of copper complex formation are similar for both ligands.
