Study of the polymorphs of silver tripolyphosphate

Abstract

The preparation and properties of silver tripolyphosphate have been investigated. It has been found that silver tripolyphosphate dihydrate decomposes on heating, first into anhydrous silver tripolyphosphate forms I and II, and subsequently into crystalline silver pyrophosphate together with a glass containing ortho-, pyro-, and tetrametaphosphate. A method of preparing silver tripolyphosphate form I is reported.
