Solubilities of perchlorates of iron(II) complexes of substituted 1,10-phenanthrolines in aqueous t-butyl alcohol

Abstract

Solubilities of the perchlorates of 5-nitro- and 4,7-dimethyl-substituted tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) cations in aqueous t-butyl alcohol have been determined. These solubilities are related to effects of the t-butyl alcohol on the structure of the water. They are compared with aquation rates previously reported for these complexes under similar conditions in order to assess the importance of initial-state solvation in determining reactivity. Solubility data for perchlorates of a variety of substituted tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) cations in water are also presented and discussed.
