Reactions of complex compounds of cobalt. Part IV. The green products of nitration of salicylatotetra-ammine complexes

Abstract

The green products of the reaction of nitric acid with salts of the salicylatotetra-ammine cobalt(III)(A) or salicylatobisethylenediaminecobalt(III)(B) cations are formulated as complexes of cobalt(III) containing the hydrogen 5-nitrososalicylate ion as a ligand. The evidence for the previous formulation of the product from A as a 5-nitrosalicylate complex of cobalt(IV) is discussed critically.
