Chemistry of the metal carbonyls. Part XLIX. Dicarbonyl-π-cyclopentadienylruthenium fluorocarbon complexes

Abstract

Reaction between sodium cyclopentadienide and [Ru(CO)3Cl2]2 affords [(π-C5H5)Ru(CO)2]2, in 40–50% yield based on ruthenium trichloride. Treatment with sodium amalgam gives the anion [(π-C5H5)Ru(CO)2], which has been shown to be less reactive than [(π-C5H5)Fe(CO)2] in reactions with CF3CF:CF2, cyclo-C6F10, C6F6, o-(CN)2C6F4, C5F5N, CF3COCl, or C6F5COCl. From the latter reaction, the para-disubstituted complex (π-C5H5)Ru(CO)2C6F4CORu(CO)2(π-C5H5) has been isolated. The infrared and 19F n.m.r. spectra of the products are compared with those of the corresponding iron complexes.
