The vibrational spectra of the halides and complex halides of arsenic(III). Part I. Liquid and solid arsenic trichloride and arsenic tribromide, and their solutions in tri-n-butyl phosphate

Abstract

The infrared and Raman spectra of solutions of arsenic trichloride and arsenic tribromide in tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) are reported and interpreted in terms of formation of 1 : 2 complexes, AsCl3,2TBP and AsBr3,2TBP. The Raman spectra of arsenic trichloride and arsenic tribromide in the liquid and solid states are also reported and discussed, particularly in relation to earlier spectroscopic studies.
