π-Bonding effects in tricarbonylarenemetals from infrared solvent studies and intensities

Abstract

A detailed study of both solvent shifts and relative i.r. intensities of a series of tricarbonyl-chromium, -molybdenum and -tungsten complexes of substituted arenes is described. Both criteria support an order of increasing π bonding between metal and tricarbonyl group in the series Cr < Mo < W.
