The mass spectra of some polynuclear cobalt carbonyl compounds: a suggested structure for hydridododecacarbonylirontricobalt and hydridododecarbonylrutheniumtricobalt

Abstract

The mass spectra of a series of compounds XCCo3(CO)9 have been investigated. The spectrum of PhCCo3(CO)9 is described in detail, as representative of the series. The mass spectra of HFeCo3(CO)12 and HRuCo3(CO)12 are reported. On the basis of the mass spectroscopic and infrared results, a structure is proposed for these two complexes in which the hydrogen atom is located inside the metal-atom cage.
