Addition of water to formylpyridines co-ordinated to rhodium(III)

Abstract

Crystallisation of trans-[Rh(4-py·CHO)4Cl2]Cl (py = pyridine) from water has been found to give trans-[Rh(4-py·CH(OH)2)4Cl2]Cl, whereas trans-[Rh(3-py·CHO)4Cl2]Cl·3H2O crystallises from water unchanged.
