The skeletal stretching frequencies of some platinum and palladium systems [MLCl3]

Abstract

Solutions of compounds R4NMLCl3(L = SR2, PR3, AsR3, C2H4, or CO; M = Pt or Pd) have been prepared and their infrared spectra recorded in the range 400–250 cm.–1. Assignments of their skeletal stretching frequencies are made. Three M–Cl stretching bands are observed for palladium systems but only two are definitely identified for the platinum systems because of coincidence. The relationship between M–Cl stretching frequencies and the trans-influence of the ligand is discussed.
