Preparation and spectral properties of di-2-pyridylamine complexes of nickel(II)

Abstract

The preparations are described of di-2-pyridylamine (= L) complexes of nickel(II) of the types NiL3X2(X = ClO4 or l), NiL2X2(X = Cl, Br, or NCS), NiLX2(X = Cl, Br, or l) and some hydrates. Magnetic measurements and electronic and infrared (400–200 cm.–1) spectra are reported and discussed. The ligand field strength of L in NiL32+ is ∼11,200 cm.–1. All the NiL2X2 compounds are paramagnetic. Pseudo-tetrahedral structures are suggested for NiLX2(X = Br or l), but NiLCl2 is polymeric octahedral.
