Pentafluorothiophenolato-derivatives of nickel, palladium, and platinum

Abstract

The acetates of nickel, palladium, and platinum react with pentafluorothiophenol, C6H5SH, to yield insoluble diamagnetic products of the type M(SC6F5)2. The derivatives of palladium and platinum react with triphenylphosphine in boiling ethanol to produce the compounds M(Ph3P)2(SC6F5)2 and [Pd(Ph3P)(SC6F5)2]2. In the presence of the large cations Bu4N+ and Et4N+, reaction between the salts K2PdCl4 and K2PtCl4 and the thiol leads to derivatives containing the anions [M(SC6F5)4]2–. The complex salts also react with tertiary phosphines to give products identical with those mentioned above and the compound Pt(Bu3P)2(SC6F5)2.
