Complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) halides with some halogenopyridines
Abstract
The preparation and properties of a number of complexes of the type CoX2L2(where X = Cl, Br, or l, and L = 2-chloro-, 2-bromo-, 3-bromo-, or 4-chloropyridine) and NiX2L2(where X = Cl or Br; L = 3-bromo- or 4-chloro-pyridine) are described. Diffuse reflectance spectra and magnetic moments are used to assign tetrahedral or polymeric octahedral structures to the compounds. The variation in the type of structure formed is related to steric effects, the polarisability of the anion, and the basicity of the organic ligand.
